I am lost on trying to correct a contribution amount. The wrong amount was entered on a January contribution and I am trying to correct it. The contribution has already been posted to FA. Here are the steps I have done:
1) Viewed Posted Contributions, found the entry and hit the "Reverse" button.
2) Went to "Unposted Contributions" where I found it.
3) Changed the amount to the correct amount and posted.
Now, when I look at the Posted Contributions, there is the right amount PLUS another entry (same check #, same date) for the wrong amount that I thought I had reversed.
What do I do? Thanks.

Re: Modifying Posted Contribution Entry
The issue occurred when you edited the Reversing Entry in Unposted Contributions. A reversal is exactly that, a reversal of the erroneous entry. What you should have done was then enter a NEW Contribution with the correct amount.PamelaS wrote:I am lost on trying to correct a contribution amount. You would then post BOTH entries to Funds Accounting. The Reversal will negate the original entry, the new entry will reflect the correct amount given in Contributions, and when finally posted in Funds Accounting, will correct the income and deposit entries.
What you need to do is reverse that incorrect entry again, then post that to Funds Accounting. This entry along with the original edited entry, should correct the income and checking accounts in Funds Accounting.
So, to summarize: to correct an incorrect Contributions entry:
1. If unposted, fix it in the Unposted Contributions function.
2. If posted, lookup the Contributor's record, find and highlight he incorrect entry, then click on the REVERSE button.
3. Enter a NEW contribution entry for that contributor, using the correct data.
4. Post both to Funds Accounting.
Now there can be some exceptions to this such as:
If the contribution was credited to the wrong contributor, but the right Contribution Fund, you would reverse the entry, enter a new entry for the correct contributor, but post ONLY to CONTRIBUTIONS as you're not really changing the deposit or the income account, so it doesn't have to go to Funds Accounting.
