Unposted Contribution Report

when I print an unposted contribution report, it "groups" envelopes and gives me a subtotal, and then "groups" some more. I can't find how PC determines what contributions are in a "group". The report is sorted in envelope number order and it DOES sort by envelope numbers, but it puts a different number of contributions in each "group". Can anyone explain to me what it is doing?

I thought it would just list out ALL the contributions in order of envelope number and then provide ONE total of the whole thing.

When you sort by envelope number, the system will subtotal by ENVELOPE. Each subtotal is the total of all the contribtuions to all the funds by that envelope number.

On the last page of the report, you'll get a total of everything taken in for that day. If you want a report showing what contribution fund totals are, you need to run the funds report (note NOT the funds report by date) and select unposted and the day you want to pull the report for. Usually, if you post weekly before the next contribution day (usually Sunday), you can leave the date at the defaults.

That will give you the funds totals.

Neil, this is what it looks like. I don't know how it is grouping it because it is NOT by envelope number. It's not too pretty, but if you look after the date, you will see the envelope numbers that are in order, but grouped....

The only time you're going to see a subtotal, is when an envelope gives to two different funds, or has two separate entries such as two checks.

oops! I see that now. I guess what threw me was that the envelopes that had only one contribution to them were all together and when PC sees two or more, it "stops" and subtotals them. If PC had put a blank line in BEFORE the grouping, it would have been easier to see. Is there a way you can turn this OFF?

No you can't turn it off. If we put a blank line between every envelope, we would get a complaint from another user that we are wasting paper because their report now takes twice as many pages. (I only wish I was kidding. We have done this before, added space to make a report more readable only to get many complaints that now it takes too much paper)
