Question about repeating contributions

Post by kristengp »

I'm used to using repeating transactions in fund accounting, but I have not used repeating contributions. I was hoping to set up repeating contributions to save time in filling in all the info, but I don't want it to automatically enter those weekly payments. If I fill in the info in repeating contributions, and it ask how often, I say weekly... What happens then? Are those entries automatically logged each week, or does it wait until I select it to be posted? Thank you!

The repeating contributions (and also Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable) work differently than the repeating transactions in Fund Accounting. That is more of a saved template transaction.

There in Contributions, you set up the repeating contribution and specify how often it should happen. The contributions aren't created automatically though. There is a separate menu option to Release Repeating Contributions. That is the process you go through to have the software create the repeating items for you. It allows you to choose the date range and then also choose the individual items you want to have created.

Zorak- thank you, this is the kind of thing I was looking for :) If I set up an entry to be weekly, will I need to release it every week? That's what I would prefer, in case the contribution is skipped one week or something like that.
Thank you!

Yes, that is how it works and for that reason!
