Tax Receipt History

While using version 11.5 (Canada) for the first time, I ran a list of donors and had the income tax receipt box ticked. Unfortunately I did not actually understand at the time that I had started a receipt numbering history record. I have since discovered the history record, but I really don't want this history, as these receipts were not actually issued.
To fix the problem, my first thought was I could reload a saved version of the data prior to running the income tax list, but I have already posted several weeks of new donations, so I would have to re-enter all that data. Is there a way for me to delete this receipt history and start from zero?
Also, I am a bit confused of how the numbering is actually generated. As I am preparing the outputs for receipts, I will often run an output so I can see on screen that the output format and wording was what I wanted before actually commit to printing. I guess that working process will have to be changed, in order to keep the history correct.
