Duplicate contribution import

We import our contributions once a month via a csv file. Has been working like a charm for 4 years. Then our new assistant treasurer created a nightmare by doing the import several times.
Is there a way to do a mass reversal or should we bite the bullet and Reverse each record for the month and re-import the month?

You can use the Delete Old Data utility found under Contributions > Setup to delete the whole month and then re-enter the month and re-import the CSV file.

It is a good idea to make a backup from under Utilities > Backup & Restore before doing this, in case there is a typo in the date range entered or something like that, deleting more history than you wanted.

Also, if you Post Contributions using the Update Fund Accounting method, this Delete Old Data won't fix the Fund Accounting side of the software. Those transactions would have to be manually reversed on the View Posted Transactions screen in Fund Accounting.

Ouch ... unless you had a backup of Contributions (which is always a good idea before you do something like an import) you may have to use the Contributions -> Setup -> DELETE OLD DATA function. The function has a range where you can setup the period you want to delete. NOTE: this only works with POSTED contributions. If these contributions have not yet been posted, I would post them to Contributions Only not to Funds Accounting.

This will clear out these contributions for that time frame.

Again do a backup of Contributions first before proceeding. Then in future, do a backup of Contributions before importing this way you can revert easily.
