Contribution to Specific Ministries
We often have members who request that a contribution go to a specific ministry - Music, Youth, Women, Benevolence, etc. Am I correct that these contributions are tax deductible as long as the leader(s) of that ministry have final decision as to how the money is spent within the ministry?
Re: Contribution to Specific Ministries
The rule about donations is only when the donation is targeted at supporting a specific INDIVIDUAL. This usually comes into play when a congregation sponsors missionaries, and the members donate funds in direct support of that individual.sonyatch wrote:We often have members who request that a contribution go to a specific ministry - Music, Youth, Women, Benevolence, etc. Am I correct that these contributions are tax deductible as long as the leader(s) of that ministry have final decision as to how the money is spent within the ministry?
However, supporting a specific ministry does not trigger this rule, as its not an individual. In reality, its basically the same as giving to the general fund.
