Giving receipts

Post by cpetroff »

Is there a way to print daily receipts for contributors? Doing it through custom reports is time consuming and takes a lot of extra work.

I don't believe so .. most churchs I know of don't give a daily receipt, only monthly or quarterly. IRS rules only require one at the end of the year.

Why do you need daily receipts ??

We are not a church, but a ministry, and all our offerings come from partners through the mail. We like to acknowldge receipt of those offerings and keep in touch with our partners in that way.

There's no reason you couldn't print statements for a single day. Whenever you generate the statements, just use the one date in both "From" and "To" fields. That should give you a statement for anything given on that one day.

Before you post contributions you can also create a mail merge file of unposted contribution and use that to merge against a letter in Word. This will allow you to make a highly personal acknowledgment of the gift.

DOH ... teach me to answer questions at midnight ... that one was so obvious, you could have hit me with it.

Aha ... of both suggestions, the mail merge file is probably the one that would make most sense. You can include all the info in the 'cover letter', and not have to include an additional sheet of paper.
