Taxable Love Offering Setup

Post by ngaham »

Hey,
I am looking for help on how to setup a taxable love offering in the payroll module. I currently have our love offerings setup as a income account from contributions and that goes into a liability account. When I pay a check, I pay it out of the liability account directly, however this won't work in the payroll module. Can someone help me get this setup?

This is going to be taxable income, right? No problem, all you need to do is select the liability account instead of an expense account when you create the Income Item Description from the Maintain Item Descriptions function in Payroll.

I tried that, but it only lets you select expense accounts.

Hmmm ... this is the first request I've seen like this, and I didn't try it out on my test system. My guess is that you'll have to create a separate income item for these donations, and then create a separate expense account. You can then link them using subaccounts to track whats coming in and going out.

You can change this behavior by going to File > Preferences > Accounting Setup. Click on the Payroll tab and uncheck the "Validate Accounting Transactions" option. You will then be able to assign any type of account to that income item.
