Relaying denied

When I try to email a contribution report I get an error message saying "Relaying denied." What's that mean?

It means that your SMTP server does not recognize your login, and believes that you're trying to use the server as an email relay, much like some spammers do to open servers.

I suppose that's because I'm trying to send out a contributions report from home (actually a test mailing to myself) rather than church where I'd normally send them from.

You should be able to
override the default mail server settings by going into
Preferences => User Setup and select the
Email tab. You can then enter your own email address and server info that you use for your home email to do the test.

Some ISPs have changed their SMTP servers to only accept mail after you have logged into their server via POP. After that they will accept SMTP mail from your IP for a period of time before another POP login is required. If you are setup at home to check mail, try that before sending mail. It would have to be via POP, like thunderbird or outlook, logging in through web based e-mail would not work in this case.
