Old donors show up

When I click on the magnifying glass by the envelope # when entering a contribution, everyone who has ever given to our church appears on the list. i would like to somehow mark some as 'Inactive' so they don't always come up, but because they were assigned an envelope number at one point and there is a giving record, it comes up on the list. Is there any way to keep this list short so it includes only those who currently give?

Version 12 of PowerChurch Plus added the ability to define a range of envelope numbers that are "inactive". With this, you can specify a number range - for example 10,000 to 10,999 - and move your inactive donors into that number range. Their giving and pledge history would still be around for reporting in the future, but those donors wouldn't show up in the envelope number lookups.

You can specify the inactive envelopes range by going to File > Preferences > Contributions Setup. Then use the Reassign an Envelope Number utility in Contributions > Reassign to move your inactive donors into that number range.
