Check Number Field Size

I have just started entering check numbers from contributors and have run into an issue in the size of the field. We receive several on line banking generated checks and in every case the check number exceeds the 6 number limit in the field. I end up just putting in the last 6 digits when I enter these. Is it possible to get the size of this field increased to 10 digits in the next release?
