Donor Restrictions & Short Term Missions

Hi,

I'm wondering if there is a way to use the donor restrictions to help with tracking donations to short-term missions. What is happening is that individuals going on STM are raising funds and we need to track how much each individual has raised. We also had the situation last year that the trip was cancelled due to political instability where they were going and now some of the people who raised funds last year are unable to go this year. We want to be able to hold on to those funds they raised for a specified period of time (I think it's going to be 5 years) and then if the individual doesn't use the funds for their own STM by that time, the funds will go into a general pot to help others go on STM.

I've seen the info on how to set up temporary donor restrictions, but is there a way to track the time limit in PowerChurch or do we need to track that separately?

Thanks in advance for your help,
ML

This area is more for questions on contributions entry and setup of contribution funds. The use of restricted funds is covered in the Accounting forum, but to answer your question. I just checked the Powerchurch manual, and you can add a temporarily restricted account, but you will have to track the time yourself. If you have the V.10 manual, the info on restricted accounts starts on page 192, and how to setup a restricted fund is shown on page 232.

Then on the contributions side you can setup a special fund that will post to that restricted account on the funds accounting side.
