Our church is so large that it takes two people to keep up with income & expenses and contributions. One person keeps up the contributions on a laptop computer. When completed for the quarter, unposted contributions are backedup onto a jumpdrive then restored into church main computer, using "update contrubutions fund only". However, when these files are restored, they wipe out existing posted contributions from previous quarter. Is there someway to transfer the unposted contributions from one computer to another and not wipe out the existing posted contributions? Currently I am reentering the contributions into the main computer. This is very time consuming especially this time of year when we are trying to get out contribution statements. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Updating Contribution Files
Quick question, why aren't the two computers networked so that the main database is automatically updated?finsec10 wrote:Our church is so large that it takes two people to keep up with income & expenses and contributions. Second question, how are you doing the transfer of data?? Using Powerchurch backups from the laptop to the main ??
The problem, as I see it, is that if you're backing up the contributions database from the laptop, you overwrite the contributions database on the main computer with whatever was done in the contributions database on the laptop. SO .. if the laptop does a post contributions, all those unposted contribution transactions are no longer available. What you may have to do is do a backup after all contributions have been entered, but before you post. Then when the contributions data is restored to the main computer you will have those unposted contributions there.
I'd then post on the laptop.
However, if you network the computers, you will not have to worry about being out of sync, whether with the data in contributions, but also the data from Membership that is linked to the contributions.
