Changing envelope numbers after posting

Post by wabcuser »

We do not always assign an envelope number when a visitor makes a small contribution. Usually we use the number we use for cash contributions. However, sometimes we are blessed to have visitors become "regulars" and they begin giving regularly and we assign them an envelope number. Is ther eany way to "go back" and reassign those first or second contributions to the new number if they are already posted?

There is a way to adjust these, although it can be a pain, which is why we usually give an envelope number outside of our normal range (around 2000 and higher) to these visitors.

What you'll have to do is this:

1. Identify those Sundays they contributed, and how much they contributed.
2. Create reversal entries for those Sundays for the 'Lucy Cash' loose plate offering by entering a negative amount for the amount they contributed.
3. Assign an envelope then create new contribution entries for the amount they contributed those the Sundays they attended.
4. Post contributions using the Only Update the Contributions Module. This will not create transactions for Funds Accounting, but will correctly update the reports for Contributions.

As I said, it is much easier to assign a number, then purge them after 3 years or so.
