envelope numbers

Post by fbccalvert »

Why do all contributions have to be entered by envelope numbers? Why can we not use membership names/profiles? Seems logical to give us the option.

Just my opinion...I think it's much faster to enter the contributions with numbers instead of names and also more accurate because of having families with the same last name and similar first names.

The reason for this is that many churches use envelopes (IMHO ... I would say the majority of churches do so). The other reason is that using an envelope number is an easy way to link the membership module databases to the contribution databases. An envelope number can be assigned to one, two or more people. So if a couple is a single giving unit, the envelope can be assigned to both profiles. If each person gives separately, they can have their own number.

For those churches not using envelopes, you can just let the members know that their 'contribution number' is , and they can then write that number (if they wish) on the check.

That said, its an idea that could be done and should be added to the wish list, however, an envelope number would still need to be assigned to link the databases if nothing else. And remember, just because you're not using envelopes now, doesn't mean you won't be using them a few years down the road.
