Contribution memo line

I was pleased to see the memo line now on contribution entry. I thought, great, I won't have to pencil in needed info on the "unposted contributions" report. Wrong. Memos don't show on contribution statements, either. How is the memo line used? Is there a way to get it on the reports I use?
