Check Reader Ignoring one Check Whose Number is > 10000

Post by jeffkoke »

This may not be the best descriptive title, but I'll explain.

For one particular person's check, when the check reader reads it, PC+ v9 refuses to accept the input. After the check is read through the reader, its status light stays green. A red light indicates that the reader was unable to properly read the MICR line.

In v8.5, PC+ would accept the input, but improperly display/insert the bank routing code as opposed to the actual check number.

It so happens that the check number on the check is 10038. In the MICR line, it is showing "0038."

I looked at several other sets of checks in the batch and there were some with a leading set of zeros prefixing the actual check number. There were also cases where the check number (in the MICR line) was not the last number in sequence, but v9 accepted those check numbers with no problem.

As an aside, I was told that the "problem" check has had issues at other institutions (like the bank it is written on). Apparently, these checks were custom printed.

Hopefully I've described this sufficiently.

Any ideas?
