I've been trying to fix this for a while but I cannot seem (even with the help tools on the program itself) to solve it.

I have several errors in the Posted Contributions of our church's finances. One posted error has gone to the wrong family and it needs to be changed. However since it is posted already, I cannot edit it. I need to delete this particular contribution and repost it.

Another of my problems is that I accidentally (through a complicated series of mathematical errors between myself and the accountant) posted a series of contributions for a specific date that all ended up being wrong. I need to delete these posted ones for this date so I can redo the statements. I tried to get powerchurch to tell me but it won't give me any information besides deleting old data. I definitely don't want to do that yet - but I need to take care of these faulty contributions. How do I get this done?

This is easy .. if in Version 11, you can go to the View Posted Contributions under the incorrect family, find the incorrect contribution, and click on the Reverse button. In Version 10.4 and earlier, just enter a contribution for the incorrect family using the same date, contribution fund, and a NEGATIVE amount. For example, if the incorrect contribution was on 01/01/11, fund 01 and $30. You'd enter a contribution for 01/01/11, fund 01 and -$30.

Post the reversal transaction, and the contributions been erased from the incorrect family. You can then enter the correct transaction for the correct envelope, then post that.

Powerchurch is correct, go to the Delete Old Data function of Contributions. It will give you a screen where you can enter the date for which you want to delete all the transactions. If its only one date, then enter the same date in both date areas.

Of course, then the accountant needs to make sure that Funds Accounting has been updated properly by reversing the deposit transaction on their side.

Quick Question ... how did a mathematical error get the Contributions data wrong ??

I am not sure, actually. We'd bounced back the numbers (Contributions are counted every Sunday by a team of four to make sure errors don't happen) and then a team of two when we post them into powerchurch. It was like the Twilight Zone, I swear.

Thank you for your help, though - I will try this and see if it works. Which it should, just the operator might not get it right. Technology is fickle.

My advice ... do the entry on Sunday ... skip the separate entry. Its much easier to make sure things are entered properly when the money and the checks are right in front of you !!

Take a backup before you start, this way you can revert if necessary.
