Traial Balance mismatch Fund totals

Post by Ron Ricklefs »

We just discovered that the Sep. Balance Sheet Assets vs Liabilities totals do not match. We traced back to Jan 2004 Trial Balance and note that the Beg. Balance is 0.00 but the Curr. Balance indicates -12.96. From that point on, each month has the same differential.

The 2003 balance sheet balanced and the new Fund balance carried over at year end closing. There were no single transactions of this amount in Jan.

At this point we are more interested in clearing this balance prior to closing Oct. but find no references in the manual with which to accomplish this. Please advise.

Since no one has answered this concern, guess I'll have to answer it myself!

The trial balance is inclusive of ALL Funds, not just the one that you happened to be looking at. Therefore the out of balance at the end of a TB report may be from a previous month and not appear in the entries of the current month.

This error was finally located as an credit entry on a Fund #1 account and a debit entry on our Fund #2, a passive fund that is not usually accounted for except on a quarterly basis. A journal entry resolved the disparagy on both funds.
