Moving to a NAS

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Moving to a NAS

Post by CrossPoint Toledo »

We are currently running PowerChurch 14.4 on our network, hosted by one of our computers. We are installing a NAS this month, and we will be moving PCP over to the NAS. I have read the articles about doing this in the Knowledge Base and in this forum.

1. Can I copy the entire PCPLUS14 folder and sub-folders from the old server to the NAS? Will that be sufficient to make sure our data is transferred?
2. We use the email function of PCP. I think it uses Microsoft Outlook to send our emails. If we move everything to the NAS, how will the emails get sent? *Note* Upon looking further, I don't think the program uses Outlook. We're using SMTP.

Thank you,
Mike DeLong

You can, but the best way install on the NAS is to follow the directions for initial install on the NAS, then when the system asks if you're installing from scratch, and so on; there is an option to install from a PCPlus backup. So I'd do a full PCPlus backup from the current installation and have that available on the installation machine.

It may take a bit longer, but you're going to be sure that the program was properly install. You'd then have to map all the computers to that network share on the NAS, and run the Netsetup14.exe program in the NAS PCPLUS14 folder, from every computer that will need access to Powerchurch. This sets up the 'workstation' PCPlus configuration to properly access the NAS server.

Does this help?

Using PC+ since 1999.
