Print labels for familes who have children?

Post by pbumc »

Hi,

In PC 10.4, is there an easy way to print labels for families who have children? The labels need to be addressed to the parents or the family.

I can create labels from Personal Profiles (selecting on Personal Status codes that we set up for children), but the labels are only addressed to the family if there is more than one child. Otherwise they are addressed to the child.

I know I could do a custom report, or create an activity and use Family labels, but I was hoping there might be a built-in solution?

Thanks,

Mark Berry

The labels are being addressed to the family because the "Print one label per household" box is checked on the Mailing Label Options screen. If you want individual labels to print for each child, simply uncheck this box when printing.

Zorak,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it is not working quite like that.

We ONLY want labels addressed to the parents/family, NEVER to the child. (For example, send a permission slip to the parents.)

When the "Print one label per household" box is checked:

- If the family has two children, the label says, "The Jones Family," for example. This is what we want on all labels.

- If the family has one child, the label says, "Bobby Smith". This is what we don't want.

Thanks,

If you only want family information on the label, you would need to print labels from Family Mailing List, rather than Personal Profiles or Activities & Skills.

In this case, you would need a field or a code on the family record to designate that it is a family with children, so that you can select these families only when printing labels.

Creating a code for children in the family mailing list does not work either, the software does not recognize a family as a family unless there are 2 or more children.

I tried everything suggested above and it is still not printing labels addressed to The XXXXX Family unless I create an imaginary child for each family with only one child.

Because you are printing labels from Personal Profiles and choosing the "One label per household" box, the software uses logic to figure out if it needs to be addressed to the adults' names "John & Sandy Smith" or if there is a child in the mix, it switches to the "The Smith Family" format, because it can't fit three or more peoples' individual names on the label.

If you want labels to always be addressed to "The Smith Family", change the "Mailing Name" field on the family record to "The Smith Family" and print labels from Family Mailing List.

So we have to take that step each time we want mailing labels to appear that way??
