There are (3) items that would really help in identifying errors in Contributions before posting, if they could be added:
1. Currently only the total contributions show on the Unposted Contributions Report. It would be helpful to have a breakdown by fund. It's so easy to select the wrong fund, and not catch the error.
2. I know the following suggestion does not seem logical, but it works: Add a sum total of the envelope numbers to the Unposted Contributions Report.
Part of the procedure when preparing to enter contributions should be to add the envelope numbers together. That way, if an amount is posted to the wrong contributor, it's another cross check for error.
I've had to correct errors in both of these cases this week.
A tithe was posted to a mission fund in error and in the second situation, the wrong envelope number was written down for a family member, but posted correctly because the system defaulted.
3. And last but not least, the procedure manual says to assign the same envelope number to husband and wife if they are giving together. When the envelope number list prints, it prints them individually and not always together, if there are other family members that contribute. This leaves room for error and is confusing. It would be nice if both names would print together and only once when the same number is assigned.
Thanks so much for your consideration!

Re: Wish List
Thanks for the feedback, Pam. Some thoughts below:
You can run the "Funds Report" for unposted contributions to get these numbers.Pam wrote:1. Currently only the total contributions show on the Unposted Contributions Report. It would be helpful to have a breakdown by fund. It's so easy to select the wrong fund, and not catch the error.
I can see how this could be confusing, but in the example of John Smith and Karen Williams-Smith (or even just Williams), Karen would be very difficult to find in an alphabetical list, since she would not be listed in the W's in her own entry, separate from John's.Pam wrote:3. Pam,
This is in response to your Point #1.
You may already be doing this, but after entering the contributions for a specific deposit, we run an unposted contributions report as well as a funds report and then post the contributions to the contributions module and fund accounting. These two reports and the envelopes and count sheet constitute the packet for that offering.
Then, the unposted contributions report is audited against the envelopes to check for mistakes. Any errors can then be corrected. The unposted contributions report shows each fund that a giver indicated on their giving envelope as long as there are contribution funds assigned for each of the categories. I'm not sure what you mean about the unposted contributions fund showing only a total contribution for an envelope. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean. For instance, if giver 390 contributes $100 to tithes, $50 to missions, $50 to building fund, then they should be listed on the unposted contributions report as 3 lines:
390 $100 Tithes
390 $50 Missions
390 $50 Building fund
I hope this makes sense and is maybe helpful.
