Two mailing lists

Post by Al »

V.9
On one machine, the person who does the Contributions keeps a list. If a new person joins, that person is added to the Mailing List.

On another machine, the secretary makes changes to the Mailing List.

Thus, we have two mailing lists - not identical.

When this was set up, it was the intention that they would communicate and both make the same updates. However, ....

My question is, can the two lists be merged somehow (eg both exported to Excel files and merged, and then restored to PowerChurch)?

I'd just as soon not have to re-enter all the missing data to one, and then copy to the other.

Thanks.

You didn't say if the person doing the contributions was adding invidiual personal profiles as well as adding to the family mailing list !!

You could import data into the family mailing list using the Import feature of the family mailing list, however, it does not import from the personal profiles area .

If the secretary was only adding names to the Family Mailing LIst, then I would export from that machine in Excel 97 format, clear out any duplicates by verifying via a report (I wouldn't try a merge), then import into the Contributions machine.

Then I would NETWORK the two machines to the Contribution machine, as this would be the one with ALL the data that is needed. In this fashion the mailing list would never be out of sync again.

Again, the reason you would go from the secretary's to the contributions machine is because on the contributions machine you have personal profiles that are linked to the names setup on the Family Mailing list on that machine, as well as to contributions given by those persons.
