Chart of Account Example

Post by Treasurer »

I'm a new volunteer treasurer for our church, and have never been a treasurer for a church before. And though I have a good grasp of GAAP, I'm not familiar with fund accounting or church accounting in particular. I'm looking at changing our Chart of Accounts, because I don't think its GAAP, for instance, some expenses are being deducted from income accounts, there are no restricted funds accounts set up, reserves for future expenses are booked as subaccounts to one of our checking accounts.

To help me set up an new COA, does someone out there have an example COA they would be willing to share? Preferbably one where some accounts are restricted, pass through, and funds set aside for future expenses (but not in a separate checking account).

Thanks!
New Treasurer

Just a tip to those new on these forums.

Its not a good idea to put your email addresses "in the clear' on any forum, as there are people who have created 'webbots' that scan for email addresses that can be used by Spammers to send SPAM.

I'd advise the above posters to edit their post to remove the email address. If you need to contact someone to give them an email address, just click on the member's name in order to send them an email through the forum.

Blessings.
