Group email "certificate chain" problem

Group email "certificate chain" problem

I am running a backup copy of the PC+ software and data files on my laptop, mostly used for reporting, inquiry and group email purposes. That is, I used to use it for group email, but recently (1 month, maybe) I get an error message when I try to send a group email from my laptop, which says: "the certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted". I get the same message when I run a test from the System Setup E-mail Options tab.

The strange thing is that as far as I can tell, all of the email options are exactly the same on my laptop as they are on the church's computer, and we can still send mass emails from that computer with no problem. I just backed up the data files from the main computer and restored them to my laptop and tried sending from the same internet connection with all of the same settings, but it won't work.

What am I missing?

Are you using the same ISP as the Church does ?? Depending on how you have the church email account with, if the mail is not being sent from an IP address recognized by the mail server, it may not allow you to send email through it.

I'd check to see if there's a procedure that the ISP has to allow mail users to access their mail server from outside the 'trusted' ISP IP group.
In some cases, its a different port number, secure handshaking, etc.

Thank you for the response. As I noted in my first post, I was using the same internet connection as the main computer and was unable to send. I was connected wirelessly vs. CAT5 cable like the other computer, but through the same router.

I should also note that I have been sending group emails without any problem up until about a month ago. We have not changed anything in terms of PC+ MR's or internet service. I guess I'm wondering if it's PC+ that's throwing up this roadblock, or something else down the line.

Actually, it was not directly inferred from your first post that you were on the same connection.

I've not seen anything in the forums about such an error coming from PC+. That error message is being sent back from the mail server. Some servers have added SSL and Security Certificate requirements.

Have you tried sending a regular email using the church email account and ISP mail server from your computer? What happens then ?

You might want to check and make sure that the "Validate Certificates" box is unchecked on the File > Preferences > System Setup Options > E-mail tab.

This should resolve the issue

If it was a snake it would have bit me! It works now, and I won't waste any more time trying to figure out why it changed.
