2004 contribution added to present year

When I did the quarterly contributions report last week I had to do a double take on the very first contributor's "Actual" amount. It was $1032 more than the actual offering. A search of his past giving turned up that amount for the year 2004! He had only donated once during the first quarter this year: $180. His is the only report that that happened to. Any idea how an old annual total got added to this year's first quarter amount? And have it happen to only one person? It's not among his posted contributions, just the $180. Oh, a dey by day search of this year showed it first appeared on January 1 of this year.

From your description of the actual amount, I'm assuming that you're seeing this number under the pledges areas of the form ??

I suspect what may have happened is that somehow the 2004 amount got assigned to this year's pledge. I'd check the pledges for this person to check to see what that list shows.

That was what had happened. The 2004 contributions were somehow added to 2009's contributions. By changing the start date to Sunday, 01/04/2009, the 2004 contributions disappeared.

I suspect what may have happened is that somehow the 2004 amount got assigned to this year's pledge. I'd check the pledges for this person to check to see what that list shows.

This normally happens when you change the dates of an existing pledge, instead of adding a new pledge.

If, for some reason, the 2004 pledge dates were changed to 2009, the 2004 contributions that were applied to the pledge will still be there. A prompt comes up in this situation asking if you want to remove the old contributions, but you are able to choose No.

Unfortunately I don't have 20/20 hindsight that might help me remember exactly what happened on the day I entered the pledges. Since he was the first one (envelope #1) and none of the subsequent pledges have this problem, I can only assume I was asleep at the switch at that point and suddenly woke up, not realizing what I'd done. But I still can't figure out why 2004! But I shan't worry about it anymore and get on with the few remaining years allotted to me.
