Transferring from 01 to 02 Fund

Post by LydiaGirl123 »

I just created a new fund for our Building Fund (02). I tried to enter the beginning balance by way of an entry that took the amount out of the 01 General Fund (credited 01-9510-000) Transfer from Fund 01, and debited the new account 02-1110-000 (checking account for building fund).

I get this message: The total debits and credits in each accounting fund do not balance. Do you want to continue?

If I don't show the transfer this way, how do I?

Thanks once again.

Lydia

A transaction that affects accounts in more than one fund would need to be balanced in each fund.

The purpose of transfer accounts is to provide the balancing entry in each fund. Example below:

01-1110-000 checking (credit) 100.00
01-9010-000 transfer out (debit) 100.00
02-1110-000 checking (debit) 100.00
02-9020-000 transfer in (credit) 100.00

There is a document that I will link below that discusses this in much more detail:
