Maintenance Release Configuration Management

Post by jeffkoke »

Is there a way to determine the date of each maintenance release?

After reading the announcement regarding the issuance of a maintenance release, I'm wondering if this is the same MR that was released last week.

Since the filename is the same, it is hard to tell.

How about including the month/date in the filename? Perhaps something like pcp9mr29sep.exe??

Once downloaded, I was able to determine that the size of the MR on the site today is slightly smaller than the one I got on 24SEP04.

While I'm at it:
- Can the MR be directly FTP'd versus using a webbrowser?
- Can you include a list of what was fixed?
- Is this Radio Shack??

Suggestions?

AdvanceThanks,
Jeff

On the Maintenance Release page, the program date of the latest release is displayed so you can compare your program date with the current MR.

FTP: sorry, no.

Fix list: we're working on automating that - we just built a new internal bug tracking app. Here's a rough overview:
*if you don't enter a subaccount number, instead of defaulting to 000, it's blank.
*pictorial directory wasn't printing all phone numbers
*a problem with CO check scan not advancing cursor (I think you reported this, Jeff)
*profile status not updating in Integrated Data Entry
*problem with multiple email addresses separated by commas in bulk mail
*export FA data now prompts for overwrite if file already exists
*budgets were getting duplicated in some situations

Jeff, I just rechecked. The 9/29 is slightly larger.
If you allready installed the 9/25, do you install the 9/29 over it?

Here's the long listing I've got:

1 jkoke admin 13111678 Sep 30 07:16 pcp9mr.exe
1 jkoke admin 13059860 Sep 26 20:26 pcp9mr26sep04.exe

I don't think I've confused them, but have not installed the file with today's date.

In windows explorer, (win 98se), I get 12,754 kb for the initial distribution of 9/25, and 12,805 kb for the 9/29 distribution.

I agree with Jeff, they need additional identification in the title to distinguish one from the other.

Is it okay to install the 9/29 over the 9/25 release?

That's because Micro$oft doesn't know how to count! There have been numerous discussions in other forums regarding that issue.

The maintenance releases are cumulative, so you do want to install the latest even if you did not install a previous mr.

My $.07 worth,
Jeff

I agree ... its been recognized that Windows never shows the correct size in Explorer, if you open a command window (AKA a DOS prompt), you'll see that it lists the proper size.

In addition, since they're cumulative, I think the only place they need to be identified is on the download entry form, and they are doing that now. Of course, I usually test the changes at home first on my test setup before I bring the MR over to the church and overwrite the existing MR.

I guess my second question was misunderstood. I have installed the 9/25 update. Is it okay to install the 9/31 maint release on top of the 9/25 release

Yes, you can. Basically the release just overwrites the existing PCPLUS.EXE.

However, they are cumulative, so if you didn't install the 9/25, you could forget that one and just install the latest.
