Revise Posted Contributions
A nonmember has made several contributions this year, which was allocated to 999 (visitor) code. This member now has an assigned envelope. How do I credit the member for previous contributions under the visitor code?

You will have to go to each date that this particular donor made a contribution and make a negative contribution of the same amount, same type (cash or check), same date, as the original.
Then, make a new entry in the positive amount to the new envelope number.
In version 11, (you didn't specify which version you use), you can go to View Posted Contributions, and click on REVERSE the old posted contribution. That will simplify step one. You then have to re-enter the correct Contribution.

Re: Revise Posted Contributions
What we do when a visitor becomes a member or we deem them to be so regular that we assign them a member series number is to merely do a 'Reassign an envelope number' under Contributions. That eleminates all these steps listed in the previous post.
Re: Revise Posted Contributions
Thank you both for these instructions. We are using version 10.
This is very helpful.

FWIW ... I agree with John. If the person contributes with a check, or with cash in an envelope that they put their name on it, we give them an envelope number Outside[\b] the usual member numbers.
IE: Member numbers: 100-1000
Non-Member - 1001-1099
In this way you have the information available for a statement if they give over the amount where such a statement is required, and your membership/evangelism team can then track the visitor in the Attendance module if they wish.
