Reassigning offering envelopes

We have not closed out of December 2011. Can we reassign new offering envelope numbers to this year and still have last year's contribution information? Say they have envelope number 54 in 2011 and I reassign them a new number for 2012, will I be able to look at envelope 54 and see what they have given or does it all flow over to their new number?

I have copies of their contribution statements for this year...but if I need to make changes to their contribution in 2011 how do I do that if I've changed their number? Does this make any sense?

All of the previous giving information will follow over to the new number. If you need to make any changes to the 2011 giving it will have to be done using the new number.
