deleting all families

Post by Pastor Drew »

No, I'm not just mad at them. :x
I'm setting up a new installation of PowerChurch and our current member list is in an Access Database. I modified it to match the field order needed and exported it as an Excel spreadsheet.

When I imported it, it only imported the first character in each field so I want to just delete all family records and start over. I'll be modifying the Excel file so it imports right the next time.

What is the best way to get rid of everybody? (besides bad preaching)

OK .. first off, is anything else setup in the program, such as accounting, activitimes, and so on. If not, I'd just uninstall the program using the Windows add/remove program module. I'd then make sure that the Powerchurch directory is deleted. Then reinstall

If there are other parts of the program already setup, then you'll probably have to go through each one manually and delete, or call the support line for advice.

However, if I remember right, all you can import is the Mailing List data (address, home phone, and Mr & Mrs John Smith name) none of the personal profile information can be imported.

Before you do the next try, even though there's no data in the system, do a backup, this way you can restore to the empty database if necessary.

Thanks Neil, that's perfect. I have not done any more than add users and permissions and I can easily re-create that.

I'm trying to follow the attached format for importing data. What I had done was export it from Access as a .xls file, but I did not open it in Excel and be sure it would be exported from there in the correct format.

I'll re-install and start over. thx again!

All set again.
fwiw I'm using Office 2010 and when I exported the Access database to Excel '97 format PowerChurch continued to populate the fields with only the first characters.

I exported it instead to '95 format and it imported no problem.

Glad to hear that ... now all you have to do is load the personal profile data by hand ;)
