FoxPro

Post by DSimonson »

One of the forum question replies indicated that Power Church uses FoxPro as its data engine. Are there any options for running a more powerful engine such as SQL Server? If not, are there any plans for supporting MSDE / SQL Server? This would ease integration with .Net applications wishing to access the PowerChurch datastore.

The current version of PowerChurch was written in Visual FoxPro 6. There are currently no plans to switch from FoxPro. Most churches don't have the resources to maintain a complex client/server setup that would be required for SQL Server. The majority of our users have, at best, a peer-to-peer network, and many have one or more standalone systems. For this type of environment, FoxPro is the ideal choice.

I believe the version of Visual FoxPro that PowerChurch version 7 was developed in will not work with to much memory. Here is the Microsoft Article. Newer version of Powerchurch are developed with different versions of Visual Foxpro and don't suffer this problem. Unfortunatly the only solution would be to take out some memory or upgrade to a newer version of PowerChurch.

If you would like to recieve a Demo of the new version feel free to call our office at (800)486-1800.
