I am very concerned to realize that gifts previously receipted during the year have been included in my year end tax receipts. Doesn't PowerChurch recognize when a gift has been receipted and why doesn't the software warn me? (This particular situation occurred because we ran a special fundraising campaign during the year prior to converting to PowerChurch and the clergy wanted to send the tax receipt along with a thank you letter, however I was able to duplicate it on gifts received after the PowerChurch conversion.)
How do other churches manage reprinting duplicate receipts? In a similar situation to the one above, I was able to re-print multiple receipts for one parishioner at year end and the program just kept assigning a new receipt number each time. If a parishioner loses their receipt and wants a duplicate copy because the receipt numbers change, if they found the original they could inadvertently claim their offering on their tax return twice.
Also for future development, if there is any way that we can add an electronic signature to the receipt authorization area that would be so helpful. I use PowerChurch both for my smaller home parish and my work at a Cathedral. Signing 200 receipts for my home parish is completely do-able but signing each receipt for all of our Cathedral donors is a completely different experience.
Thanks so much for your help!
Kathy

Kathy,
Where are you printing these "receipts " from? There are no receipt numbers printed on the contribution statements that I print form within the contribution module.

Kathy,
what version of Powerchurch are you using ?? If I remember right, in v11.5 (and I think v11.1) you have the option to print a receipt that does not have the Canadian tax receipt formatting. This is the format that should have been used as a receipt, then at the end of year the official receipt would be printed.
The system does not recognize that a receipt was issued previously, as it assumes that all contributions given between the dates listed, to Contribution Funds setup to appear on the contribution statement, should appear on the statement.
In v11.5, you can track the individual receipt number in the Tax Receipt History function.

Thanks for your response, Neil. I am using the online version of PowerChurch here at the Cathedral and it was the tax history that alerted me to this issue. - Kathy

Re: Gifts receipted x2 & Duplicate Receipts
There are no explicit controls in PowerChurch to keep your double receipting donations. Most customers only provide receipts at year end or other defined intervals so they don't double receipt a donation.
If you have one fund that you produce receipts for throughout the year and others that you only receipt yearly, when producing receipts you can choose which range of funds to include. Only contributions to those funds will be included on the receipts.
