We are going to be doing a server takedown today. The server holds PC 9 and we are removing the server, moving the files to a new computer and then sharing the folder on the network. After the server takedown we are upgrading to v. 11.5.
I was trying to do a backup of all data in PC 9 the other night but it didn't give me the option to do anything other than floppy disks. Didn't know people still used those. Any ideas on how to get around this?

I had thought v9 was upgraded to use CDs, but that probably showed up in v10. V9 was created back in 2000, so floppys were still an option. Check to see if the program date is 06/18/2010 .. that was the last Maintenance Release for v9. All MRs are cumulative, so if you need to install that one, you'll get all the updates.davidtaylorjr wrote:We are going to be doing a server takedown today. Go here to find out more: https://www.powerchurch.com/mr/
To download the MR, you'll need your church name as it is listed in the program, along with the registration number.
FWIW ... you really don't need to have v9 installed to do the v11.5 upgrade, just the file structure and data files.
I'd just zip up the entire Powerchurch directory tree, and unzip on the server. Then when you install 11.5, and run it for the first time it will ask you if you're upgrading. Say yes, and the program will search the drives for a x:\Powerchurch directory tree, then find the data directory to do the upgrade.

That was my next question, so I can just zip the PowerChurch Directory?NeilZ wrote:I had thought v9 was upgraded to use CDs, but that probably showed up in v10. Basically, yes for this case!! I would not do that as a normal backup mode, but in this case because you're going to install v11.5 on the new server, and do not plan to use or "install" v9, I would do that.davidtaylorjr wrote:

Make sure that you get the entire c:\powerchurch\PCPLUS9 directory tree, so recurse down into the tree. As far as placing it on the new server, you don't need to have it on the "C" drive, but it needs to be directly off the root of the drive you select.

Re: Backup V. 9
Ok that makes sense, thanks for the help.
Re: Backup V. 9
Should have included that you can use the same 'root' directory for the installation of 11.5. That is, if you loaded the v9 tree on D:, you can then point the installation to D:\ also.davidtaylorjr wrote:Ok that makes sense, thanks for the help.
