Renumbering All Members

Post by Alaraujo »

We just had our Membership file converted from another system and imported into PowerChurch Plus. But the envelope numbers are all over the place. Is there a way to do a mass renumbering of all members?
We are starting PwrChurch at Jan 1, 2013. :(

Not easily ... I'm assuming that any contributions were also imported into the system, and you don't want to lose any of that data either. If not, then its not as heavy an issue, still you have to determine where you want to start your numbers from. That is, from 1 or 101.

Here's a thread where I gave a good overview of renumbering. It will take some time depending on how many members/giving units you have. Its best to plan out what you want to do ahead of time:

You also want to make sure you have a number set aside for use by the counters for loose plate offerings. That is cash that is just dropped in the plate, without any name or envelope attached to it.

In the case of Loose Plate cash, it is recommended that you create a Dummy Envelope number. In the case of many churches, the envelopes start at 100; you would add a person just as you would a new contributor. We name this person Lucy Cash (or Loose Cash) with the address of the church. We then give this dummy entity the envelope number of 99, which is outside the normal envelope system.

All loose plate cash and coin are then credited to this number. Any checks placed in the plate are given a regular envelope number using the name on the check giving them the next number in series.
