Making corrections at year end

Hello:

I have two incorrect entries in the expense account from months that are closed. How do I correct these mistake from months that are closed. When I tried to make them in December the income/expense statement did not relect the actual income and expense from that month, but relfected the income/ expense with the corrections. I am trying to close the year end. Help!
