Help with Filing W2's

Post by dcbsr »

:wall:
I need some help.

We have been using Power Church for 3 years and only process 2 W2's for the Pastor and Musician. We started out paying them in accounts payable as they both are exempt from withholding and we didn't realize the benefits of using Payroll. We have kept them in Accounts Payable in 2014 but may change them over to Payroll if there is anything to gain. Perhaps filing the W2's would be a reason.

I have copies of last year's W2's but can't see or remember exactly how I processed them. My notes show that I purchased 10 blank forms from Dynamic Systems and used NelcoPortal for 2012. However, I can't remember what I did to start the process.

This year I was going to purchase 10 forms and a software program from Amazon for about $40.00. But when I saw that I apparently processed the forms with NelcoPortal I thought I would ask if anyone can help me get started.

In summary, I have salary data for two employees in Accounts Payable and Finance Accounting but don't know how to start the process to create the W2's or how to use NelcoPortal.

Its a lot harder to do everything from scratch now by entering data into Payroll. I would definitely setup the two employees in Payroll for this year, 2014.

That said, I would head to the IRS.GOV website and download the instructions for filling out the W-2, there is so much detail in that publication that trying to duplicate that level via the forum would be futile. Also, please note that forms you bought for 2012, will not be valid for 2013, as the form does change.

If you are only doing a few W-2's it's much easier to register at the IRS Business Services Online and do them there and file electronically. That also gives you an extra month to actually submit them. And there is no fee and you don't have to buy W-2 forms.

I agree with Bill. Filing them online with the SSA site is so much easier. the first year requires quite a bit of setup for each employee but then it remembers in subsequent years. Since you only have 2 employees, it shouldn't be too bad.

Yeah .. but she still needs to know how to fill out the W-2 so that she can enter the data.

In which case, she can download copies of the W-2 form here: http://www.irs.gov/file_source/pub/irs-pdf/fw2.pdf , the W-3 form here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw3.pdf

And the instructions here: http://www.irs.gov/file_source/pub/irs-pdf/iw2w3.pdf
