I think that there are some assumptions that were made previously that we need to clear up:
1. Where are you running email from. Church office, home, somewhere else ?
2. What email domain have you been trying to use: @myemail.com, @gmail.com, and so on?
3. What is the SERVER name setup in Powerchurch? List the entire thing, with any colons or numbers listed afterwards.
Now, you CAN setup each user to use a DIFFERENT email account. Problem is, if people do not recognize the email as coming from the church, they may just mark it and delete it as SPAM.
Finally, yes you can access the Gmail server using the following entry in the SMTP server line: smtp.gmail.com:465

Re: E-mail
We are trying to access from the church as we always have. This is what is in the Set up :
E-mail: xxxxxxxxx@tbcgunnison.com
Display Name: Trinity Baptist Church
Outgoing e-mail server: smtp.roadrunner.com
We have changed our website domain to a new domain - but that took place before this started happening. I am so confused. Would have to just use the gmail stuff but not sure how to do that or if we can.
Thank you - Elida

Re: E-mail
Gmail will definitely work.
According to the gmail help website, the setup information is as follows:
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
Requires authentication: Yes
Username: Your full gmail address
Password: Your password
Security: SSL
Some people get it working without issue with these settings. Others need to define the specific port. If these settings as above do not work for you, try adding the port number to the end of the SMTP address:
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com:465

OK .. I just checked something, and so I have some more questions:
The email address xxxxx@tbcgunnison.com, does that address currently receive email? The reason I ask, is that I don't see that domain as being registered with Roadrunner.com which I believe is Time Warner Cable.
If it does receive email, how are you accessing the email?
Through an email program like Outlook or Thunderbird, or through a browser to a web interface?
If you're access mail at that address through a browser what URL do you type in ??
Have some patience, we'll get it running. Also, PLEASE do not put the full email address in your posts. It can be gleaned and you'll wind up getting SPAM.
If that doesn't work, well, we'll get GMAIL running.

Re: E-mail
Thank you so much - I got the gmail settings working. Had a few errors with a hotmail address, wildblue. net address and ksu.net address. I am relieved. Again, thank you - Elida Jacobs
Re: E-mail
Glad to hear that its working with Gmail ... just wondering what is going on with the tbcgunnison.com address. As I mentioned, if its getting and sending mail you should be able to use it.

Re: E-mail
That address is linked to our old website . We are making a new one and the domain has changed. So I think that it what that is about. The strange thing is that we cancelled that website at least a month ago and just started having problems a week ago with emial address.
Re: E-mail
That does explain it. Sometimes it takes a while for the hosting company to actually close down the site and remove the name from its domain servers.elidajacobs wrote:That address is linked to our old website .
