Automate data export?

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

Automate data export?

Post by markm »

Is it possible for an external program to invoke PC and have it export member data to XML? E.g. I want to write a script (BAT file or any language) that an administrator will run which will export data to XML and then process that data in various ways. I need it to do the equivalent of Membership -> Personal Profiles -> Other Output -> Export Data (and then defaults on all the wizard pages). Is that possible?

Thanks!

In a word, no.

In version 11.x, you can export the entire database to Access, and then work on it there, but again, you have to do that from within the program. What you are attempting to do ??

We are trying to make an error-prone manual process into a one-click fool-proof process. The current process requires one of our office staff (often with minimal training) to go into PC and export membership data to XML. Then they have to take that file and load it into another application which uploads that data to the cloud and updates an online directory. The entire process can be automated except the export from PC.

Well, you may want to send an email to wishlist@powerchurch.com, with your request, along with full explanation of what you want, and possible how you want the data laid out (XML tags used, etc). I'm not saying that it may show up in this version, but it may hit the list for the next.

That said, I've seen requests that I thought would never show up in v 11.55, turn up in a MR a few months down the road. So its worth a shot.
