move an expense account with all the data to another fund

Post by harveydutkewich »

I have income and an expense accounts that were in our General Fund accounting. We are restructuring and would like to put these accounts into another fund that is included under Children's Ministries. I know I can transfer accounts in the same fund, but is there a way to transfer from one account to another fund and not lose the data or have to manually enter it?

Well .. there is no easy way to 'move' this data from the existing fund to the new fund. You can copy the list of accounts from one fund to the new one, but not the data. You'd have to manually add info, and it may be easier to wait until the next fiscal year (I'm assuming you're on a calendar year), and add the budget info for that next year to the new fund's accounts.

That said, why do you need another 'fund' under Children's Ministries? Does it have separate funding/assets ??

we were just wanting all the children's ministries in one fund accounting. Currently it only has Kid's church and we want to add the BG club as well as the Nursery so that it all comes under one banner. When originally started, our minister only wanted the kids church but now would like all the kids ministries there.

Well, here's the question. If this is funded under normal Operations funds, couldn't you just setup a set of expense accounts starting with a level 3 for Children's Ministries ??

IE:

6000 - Childrens Ministries (Level 3)
6010 - Kid's Church (Level 5)
6020 - BG Club (Level 5)
6030 - Nursury (Level 5)
