Payroll Questions
Is there a way to issue two check numbers to one employee in Payroll? I only see one spot for a check number, but I wanted to issue a check for the housing allowance and a different check for the salary.
Re: Payroll Questions
Nope .. you would have to do two payroll processes:ngaham wrote:Is there a way to issue two check numbers to one employee in Payroll? I only see one spot for a check number, but I wanted to issue a check for the housing allowance and a different check for the salary.
First pass: run payroll and not process the Housing Allowance for that check
Second Pass: only run the Housing Allowance.
That said, why would you want to do that anyway ??

Re: Payroll Questions
I don't. My pastor wants it done that way. He has always received separate checks. I'm going to try to get him to go to one. I was hoping you would say it wasn't possible. There goes that excuse. lol.
Re: Payroll Questions
It creates more work for you, and causes you to use another check blank, which may go against the number of checks that you're authorized to issue at the bank. Not a great use of church resourcesngaham wrote:I don't. My pastor wants it done that way. He has always received separate checks. I'm going to try to get him to go to one. Although I can understand why he would want to do that, he has to track it for SECA taxes, but its really not necessary as the W-2 reflects it anyway.

Re: Payroll Questions
So just process the payroll period twice, right?
Re: Payroll Questions
You would select the choice of Suppress specific items from being processed at this time on the opening Process Payroll window, then uncheck the Payroll Items you don't want to process when you get to the Process Items window; in this case, Housing Allowance. Then continue.ngaham wrote:So just process the payroll period twice, right?
On the second pass, you 'd check the same box, using the same dates, but select the minister and not the other employees to process. Then when you get to the Process Items window, click on the Clear All, then find the Housing Allowance, check the box next to it, then proceed.
Frankly, getting the pastor to accept one check may be a lot easier in the long run, as there is more chance of an error doing this.
