Linking Computers

Post by Bettye »

I need some help. I am the Financial Secretary at my church and I am the only person with access to our financil records. Occasionally I want to be able to work on my system from home. I hate the idea of downloading from my system at work, then uploading the information at home, then downloading my corrections from home, then uploading the corrections when i get back to work. My question is this...Is there a way that I can link to my computer at work from home and work on powerchurch plus directly? Any help you can give me to achieve this would be appreciated.

There's not a way to do this natively in PowerChurch, but some users have had success with products like www.gotomypc.com. This basically will give you access to your church computer over the internet - it'll be just like sitting down at work, but you're at home. I've talked to a couple of customers who use it, and they like it. I've even been invited to connect to customers' computers to help them troubleshoot issues. It seems to work really well.

GoToMyPc is not a PowerChurch product, nor do we get any kind of kickback from them. I just know that some users have found that product to be a solution to this situation. There are other products that are similar, too like logmein.com and webex.com.

We don't endorse any of these, just passing on information.

We setup GoToMyPC for the use of our Treasurer, she can do everything from home that she used to do at the church, adding bills, updating accounts, even writing checks.

The only thing she needs to go to the church for, besides services, is to pick up the bills.

It costs about $100 a year, but well worth. As a bonus, I can use the same connection to keep tabs on the church server from home. Makes my day !!

Thank you all for your quick response. I did find a product that works extremely well for me yesterday. I got it from remotepc.com. I have 14 days or 30 free uses before I have to buy. We'll see if it serves my needs. Again thanks for the help.

My advice, GoToMyPC .. you can use it from any computer, with almost any operating system from Linux to Windows.
