Should I start 2006 from scratch?

Post by Amy »

Our church secretary of over 30 years left suddenly and I've been given the fun task of taking over the church finances. The problem is, I have no idea where to start and I have zero accounting experience. When I look at the Chart of Accounts, it seems like the vast majority of the accounts are no longer being used. We just bought PC+ V9 (and are using it on a Mac with Virtual PC, Windows 2000). Would it be a good idea to just start from scratch from 1.1.06 (the beginning of our fiscal year)? And I'm so lost with regards to setting up the Accounting module (the Accounting Setup Assistant was even confusing), I'm wondering if it might be a good idea to hire someone to get us set up?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check out our list of Authorized Teaching Consultants. If there's one in your area, or willing to travel (many of them are), that's exactly the sort of thing they can help you do.
