I have been told that a person cannot use Power Church if they do not have an accounting or CPA background. Our treasurer was dismissed and I was appointed interim. I had only one year of accounting in college some 30 years ago. A former treasurer stepped in to help me but she tells me that since I don't have that background I could not learn the program. I have requested she teach me and she refuses. We run PowerChurch v. 10. The program is already set up and has been used for serveral years. Thanks for a reply.

While an accounting background is beneficial, it certainly isn't required.

We have done our best to make the setup and maintenance of all the different accounting functions in the program user-friendly and intuitive.

If you stand back from it and let your eyes go , it may seem overwhelming at first, but if you take it one step at a time, looking only at the task at hand, you will be able to see what the program is expecting and how much of the work is actually being done for you "behind the scenes".

This forum is a great place to ask questions. Technical Support is also available by phone at (800) 486-1800 between the hours of 9AM and 6PM Eastern.

You have one year more education in accounting than I do and I have had little trouble learning the program. It does much of the work for you and alerts you to entry errors you may be making. Certianly the double entry system can be confusing at first but it is not beyond learning. If the Chart of Accounts is already in place the hardest part is already done. I would suggest that you take a copy of the program and load it onto another computer and just take some time and play with the different modules. This way if you make a mistake you will not be effecting the working system. As far as the live system is concerned, make backups often so that you can get back to known good data should you make a mistake, and believe me you will. I have been using the program for over 9 years and still get things backwards occasionally.

Pray about it and if this is where you bellieve the Lord wants you to serve, dive in and don't look back. This forum is a great place to ask for help so don't be shy.
