2025 Percentage Method Tables for automated Payroll discrepancy

Post by bmrouse »

When updating our 2025 federal withholding tax tables, I noticed an anomaly affecting only Single or Married Filing Separately (W-4 2020+, step 2 box checked). Powerchurch reports a different tentative withholding amount from amount in IRS 15-T. I tried to add a new tax table to see if the original table might be corrupted but the same numbers appear. We do not round to whole numbers for withholding amount, and I realize this discrepancy may only affect a small class of employees. Please advise corrective action.

Form W-4, Step 2 Checkbox Withholding Rate Schedules, Single or Married Filing Separately Column C: The tentative amount to withhold:

Pub 15-T/Powerchurch 14
$0.00 $0.00
$0.00 $0.00
$596.25 $596.30
$2789.25 $2746.10
$8825.50 $8861.44
$20099.50 $20135.44
$28615.50 $28651.60
$94384.88 $94420.80

Um ... I just entered the tables in my test system with the latest MR dated 12/30/24, and the calculated numbers are:

0.00
0.00
596.30
2789.30
8825.44
20099.44
28615.60
94384.80

The differing cent amounts are minor as these are annual figures, but the whole numbers are the same as the IRS.
Do you have the latest MR installed ??

I'm pretty sure it is a typo in the official documentation. We have seen that before in prior years.

The numbers in PowerChurch are actually generated by doing the math in the table.

I looked at my tax table calculations in PC+, and my values of tentative amount to withholding match amounts to what NeilZ posted, and I am also using v14.4 latest MR.
