We have new computers and using DropBox

Got a question or comment about PowerChurch that doesn't belong anywhere else? Why not post it here!?

We have new computers and using DropBox

Post by John Dykema »

We will soon have new computers in our office. They plan on us using Drop Box for our documents. Can PowerChurch data be implemented into Drop Box? I'm assuming that we won't have to do backups all the time then?

You can save your PowerChurch backups into the Dropbox shared folder, but don't share the program directory or data files directly in Dropbox. It will corrupt your data and cause bad things to happen.

Well, it's been a month and a half. We have the new computers but not Dropbox. I purchased Macrium Reflect for backing up. To save space on our flashdrives could I just copy the 'data' folder instead of all PCPLUS11? You said not to backup the whole directory into DropBox but I'm wondering about Macrium Reflect.

John,

the best thing to do is schedule the PCPlus backups using the Windows' task scheduler. In this way you have a full backup that you can easily restore to PCPlus.

FWIW .. there are files that are NOT kept in the DATA directory that need to be backed up, which is why I suggest using the built in Powerchurch backup.

The safest bet, if you're going to use something other than PowerChurch's backup routine, is to define a list of file types to backup from the PowerChurch folder.

CDX, DBF, FKY, FPT, FRT, FRX, JPG, PCA, and ZIP

Those file types will get everything that is normally contained in a PowerChurch Plus backup.

<Edit>Apparently, I missed LOG files.</Edit>
