State Tax Withholding Quit Working

Post by S. Page »

On one employee only, our pastor, the State Tax Withholding quit working as of the December paychecks. State Tax Withholding is still checked under employee. It seems to be working just fine for other employees.

Any suggestions on what might fix this?

Has anyone changed the State Tax Pay Item for the pastor? When the payroll was created, was the pastor's state tax pay item checked to process? The tax item could have been inadvertently unchecked during the 'Process Payroll' procedures.

Has anyone change the Pastor's salary pay item? Is it setup for State Income Tax?

Since this the tax calculations still work for the other employees, it would appear to be an issue with the Pastor's pay item setups.

Make sure that the pastor's salary pay item, as well as any other state taxable income item (such as any Social Security/Medicare offset, and any manse/housing allowance) are still setup for state tax.

I'd check those areas, then let us know what you find.

Thank you! We found the error...we had changed Pastor's and housing salary and housing allowance, and, somehow accidentally unchecked the tax withholding box there.

Thanks, again.
