941 incorrect wages

Post by northside »

When I print the 941 form it includes the salary from the pastor and minister of music which have no ss taken out?
There is not any SS deducted from their check.
Have I set something up wrong?

No, I've had the same problem. You just have to remember to go back and delete it from those boxes. I didn't realize it the first time when it happened several years ago until I got a letter from the IRS saying we were in error and owed penalties. I had to get an accountant and file corrective W-2's and there were no penalties but we had to pay the accountant for his assistance.

Now I have to correct that every quarter when I file 941's and first of year when I do taxes and W-2's. Pastors are self employed. I don't know if technical support can correct this problem or not.

What you need to do is this:

Head to Accounting -> Payroll -> Setup -> Maintain Item Descriptions. Pull up the item descriptions for the salaries in question.

Next to the Tax Options select More Options .. you 'll then see a list of tax items setup as you see here:

Check ONLY those boxes for the taxes that pertain to that salary. In this case you see Federal Income Tax as well as PA State Tax. Your setup may include a state tax as seen here as well as additional local taxes that may need to be taken out.

This should fix this permanently.
