Love Offerings for Pastor

Post by FBCro »

Our Pastor is paid weekly through the Payroll Module. Our Deacon Board are considering asking the Church to give a love offering next month for him to purchase a new Laptop. I realize this income will need to be taxed but I'm not sure how or where to reflect it in the Payroll Module or if it goes in the Payroll module. I know he will be using it for both personal and Church use but since they want to give it to him rather than it being Church property for his use, how does this affect the process if at all. Thanks.

As far as payroll, you can create an Income Pay Item for Pastor Gifts of type salary. As far as the expense account you may need to create a special expense account for this, and a Contribution Fund that's connected to special income account to keep that total separate from normal income.

Then in Maintain List of Employees, add that new Pay Item to the pastor's pay items list. You can then enter the amount collected when you're ready to give the pastor the funds to purchase the laptop.

That said. It may be a lot easier just to have the church buy the laptop outright. Then have the church board specify that the laptop is for the Pastor's professional and personal use.
