Installing Custom Report Writer

Post by communitygrace »

This seems like a basic question, but I'm stumped. How do I install and run the Custom Report Writer? I'm looking for the one that relates to this CD tutorial

http://www.powerchurch.com/cr/

I don't see a way to launch it through the PowerChurch program and I don't see an install on the CD.

Thanks,

Steve

The report writer is built-in. Most of the modules have "CUSTOM REPORTS' on their pull down menus. If you don't have a copy of the Powerchurch Manual, I strongly urge you find or get a copy, there is a full chapter on the report write in the manual. Its Chapter 9 in the V9.0 manual.

I've gone through the "CUSTOM REPORTS" in the pull-down menus and the manual, but I haven't found anything that looks like the picture here...

That's the EDIT FORM module. You first have to put the query together; determine your selection criteria and what you want to see for output, then when you get ready to RUN the query, you should see the EDIT REPORT button. Its on the same dialog as the START REPORT button.

There's more info on this on page 367 of the Powerchurch V.9 manual

Thanks for the help. I'll give that a try.

Is it possible to use Crystal Reports to connect directly to the database?

No, everything goes through the PC modules, to provide only the data that you're authorized to have.
